When young people come in contact with nature, they learn that our lives and nature are inextricably linked. What can your school/college do this Earth hour to make students a part of the campaign?
Actually, there are a number of ways in which your institution can become an Earth Hour partner. Besides asking your students and teachers to Switch-off all non-essential lights from 8:30pm-9:30pm on Saturday, 25 March 2017, you can, this time around:
Create your own Event!
Create your own Event by choosing to do any of the following activities:
Host an Earth Hour Competition: Have an Earth Hour themed poster making, slogan writing or story writing contest in your school. Maybe the next Earth Hour will have a slogan, a poster inspired by one of your students!
Hold workshops on green practices: Show students how they can easily compost their waste, segregate garbage or reuse old stuff to lead a greener life!
Host a DIY solar project workshop: Nothing lasts longer than the memory of one's own creation. Have students create simple solar powered equipments in your school/college garden. With these simple projects, students will learn and always remember how easy it is to bring alternative energy into our lives.
Make a trip to a renewable energy park: Get your students and your teachers energized and organize a trip to a solar energy park or a wind farm. Show them how magnificent and powerful nature is!
Organize a mass tree planting activity: Plant some hope this Earth hour by making your students plant trees.
Screen a film on environment: As a run-up to Earth Hour and to get everyone in the mood, get your students together and screen a film or documentary on environment.
Organize an Earth Hour assembly- where the environment club can spread the message of Earth Hour to all students and staff members.
Announce a mock Earth Hour- on Friday, 24 March, 2017 run a mock Earth Hour during school/college hours to ensure that everyone can together observe a switch off.
Least but not the last! Upload your party pictures and funny videos and let us know how you celebrated the hour this time around! Use the link here to tell us what you did so that we can tell the world.
Beyond all of this, there are some things that you can anyway do to help:
